Celebrate Earth Day all Month

Earth Day is a great time to appreciate our natural resources and seek out ways to protect our communities and our planet. However, you don't need to wait until April 22nd to get engaged in planet-friendly events.

Volunteer with Gowanus Canal Conservancy


Salt Lot Community Compost Site Tour - Monday 4/19/2021 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Learn more about the Salt Lot's community composting efforts on a guided tour with Site Coordinator Xander Shaw. Topics covered will include: organic waste management, urban ecology, DIY composting methods, and how to get involved with Big Reuse's composting program.

Compost Work Day - Tuesday 4/20/2021 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Contribute to Gowanus community composting efforts by attending our weekly compost build! Volunteers will process organic waste, create compost piles, sift and bag compost.

Clean & Green: Nursery - Wednesday 4/21/2021 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will pot up plants and sift compost.

Public Volunteer Stewardship - Thursday 4/22/2021 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers will maintain bioswales and urban gardens throughout Gowanus. Activities include planting, weeding, pruning, watering, and litter collection.

Public Volunteer Stewardship: Spring Weekends - Saturday 4/24/2021 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will steward street trees and tend to Greenspace on 4th's native perennial garden. Interested in volunteering? Sign up for all of GCC’s Earth Week events!
